The capital of Paraiba state is the city of Joao Pessoa. Located at the very easternmost tip of South American and Brazil, this city of 650,000 is a gem waiting to be truly discovered. Founded in 1585, it is a cultural center and has some of the best beaches in the country. The weather is tropical, with an average yearly temperature of about 25 degrees.

The city is known as the greenest in all of South America due to the large amount of forested land, over 700 hectares. The Ponta de Seixas is the easternmost point of land, and the Farol de Cabo Branco, or lighthouse, sits atop the cliffs here. From this point you can look down and see the beach stretching out in either direction.

The most well known beaches of the city are Tambau and Cabo Branco. These are the most developed, but there are still new projects under construction in these areas. Both Brazilian and international tourists love these areas, and the street that runs between the two beaches is closed every morning for people to stroll, bike and run. For rental property, these are the best places to buy. Cabo Branco is probably the most exclusive area of the city, so prices might be a little higher here.

South of Ponto do Seixas is Penha, a beach area that has lots of property available. It is unlikely to last for long though and will become an exclusive residential area. Bessa beach, towards the northern part of the city, has the Paraiba Yacht Club located here. Between Bessa and Tambau is the Manaira district, another beachfront area. There are still more beaches stretching to the north before getting to the Paraiba River.

The Castro Pinto Airport (JPA) is located east of the city in Bayeux, approximately 20 minutes from the coast. The airport has international charter flights that come into it and flights from many Brazilian cities. There are regular flights to and from Rio de Janiero, which is the easiest way to get here. There are also a number of daily flights to and from Recife, 125 km and about 20 minutes by air, away. TAM has connecting flights from most major international cities.
